Issue with Umbrel Home (out of the box)

Hello, I am super new to Umbrel (and the world of raspberry Pi’s) and just purchased the Umbrel home because I had hoped that the OS like interface would enable me to effortlessly set it up.

However, I am experienced issues out of the box and tried (unsuccessfully) following the steps on the troubleshooting guide but nothing seems to work.

  • I was able to access the Umbrel device on a Mac using http://umbrel NOT http://umbrel.local (this didn’t work). I was also able to access via the IP address, which I found through the router.

  • When I tried to install my first App, I was stuck with the installing indicator but nothing actually happened.

  • When I tried to restart the device I got stuck on the rebooting screen, it never actually restarted. However I was able to open a new tab and reconnect to the OS.

  • When I tried to use settings/troubleshooting to get the logs I got the following error “Error: Failed to fetch debug data.”

  • When I tried to SSH into the device following the instructions from the Troubleshooting guide the steps didn’t work as expected (I was able to eventually get the logs - see my reply comment).

Hoping someone from the community can help me figure out what is going on?

I’ve read a few posts in which it seems like people have similar issues, however these all seem unresolved.

Would appreciate any support!

I noticed that when I tried to SSH into the umbrella using the password I set up when I originally started the device it didn’t work, however, when I used “umbrel” per information provided on another post it worked.

here is the debug info:

Update, for anyone wanting to answer while I am asleep (AU).

I was able to reflash the internal SSD and reset the device. This has allowed me to successfully install apps on the device.
