I recently added the Umbrel to my home. But every time it is running I am loosing the Wifi repeater connection. “Connected without internet”. This happens for both, when the Umbrel is connected via LAN or Wifi. I also do not get the umbrel.local but need to access via the IP.
IP conflict? Do you have a set IP address for Umbrel?
Checked that already. Unfortunately it does not seem to be the cause for it. Also tried DNS 8844 on the repeater and disabeling it on the umbrel to no difference.
With the little information you provide, it could be several things. It would even be useful to know if there was no such problem before and it connected well and “something” happened in the time frame when it started to fail. “Something” like an update, the node shutting down incorrectly, etc.
For example, your router may have DHCP disabled and the node does not obtain an IP automatically. This is easy to find out if you have other devices on your network that use DHCP.
Try discarding DHCP and assigning a static IP to your node. This way, if it does not connect, then the problem is bigger and comes from somewhere else. The umbrel log can help us detect the problem.
If you want to try the static IP, you can follow these instructions.
Thanks. I guess it is a bit of a odd one.
DHCP is enabled for the network. I can see the Umbrel and the Repeater with different IP in the network map. I made the IPs static now in the router. However, when the Umbrel is running the repeater does not get internet even though devices can identify and connect to the repeater, just now access to internet. So for now it is either run the umbrel or the repeater.
I used to use a repeater but never solved my issue with it (I was running miners). My solution ended up being a mesh router setup.
It seems that the conflict is in the repeater. Some “strange” configuration that conflicts.
Out of curiosity, what repeater is it?
Do you have a way to test with another repeater?
It is a TP link Powerline. No other at hand sorry.
When I am connected to the same network, that the repeater uses, just to the router the network works. Maybe factory reset the TP link with the Umbrel running to see if this fixes it?
You can try factory reset. You have nothing to lose.
Since I can’t see/know what settings you have on the powerline, maybe this can help you.
Thanks Jo.
I tried the reset but it was the same result.
However, I got it to work now by putting the Umbrel in a different room and connecting it to the same network (2.4GHz) as the repeater is on, so that they are not likely in conflict.
Before I had the Umbrel on LAN or 5 GHz network and that seem to have caused some issues. Our exchange helped though to get me thinking. Have a great NYE.
