I would really like 2FA for Umbrel. This would make increase confidence in security and I would feel more comfortable allocating more to my node. Yubikey would be great, or google 2FA I think is also pretty secure. Please implement this, thank you!
I don’t think I saw anyone mention umbrel + LEDGER LIVE. In ledger live (the software managing the ledger hardware wallets), there is an experimental section that allows one to “Connect” to one’s own node (Umbrel in this case). I have tried using rpcusername, rpcpassword and tor address, LAN ip address and localhost address with ssh tunneling, but no luck getting Ledger Live to find the Umbrel node. Has anyone got Ledger Live using the Umbrel node? Could Ledger wallets be added to the connect wallet area with instructions?
Hi,
as already mentioned: more system info on the GUI (maybe even a system dashbord as a locally accessible web address)
- S.M.A.R.T values for ext. storage
- CPU info like temperature
- System load
- some more useful stuff, if you want so.
- Rename the “settings” page to “System”
- Create a new “settings” page where the user can really EDIT some settings like umbrel user name, Lightning alias, DHCP ON/OFF, name server and such.
- make that changes persistent.
Allow user to determine data storage location. sdcards while easy to reflash are more unstable than ssd’s and it is just as easy to copy the whole bootable ssd with all data on it as it is to copy or reflash a sdcard (which wear out and seem more affected by power outages than my ssd’s). It would be nice to have umbrel installed on a bootable ssd given how it easy it is now to create a raspberry pi bootable ssd.
2FA!!! I second this. It’s a must have. I can’t trust more then a few million SATs to be accessed remotely. Google authenticator (i use bitwarden) would be sufficient for all but my hodl bag on the cold card.
It would be great if you could look into automated channel management:
CLBOSS
Please make an app that lets the user automate the routing base/% fees for their node so as to auto-rebalance their channels. Somebody made a tutorial about how to get it working using SSH commands, but I’ve found that it doesn’t work well, or it doesn’t last. Besides, noobs like me need a GUI.
Backup to NAS or elsewhere.
GUI watchtower setup
2FA
- A working connection to Ledger Live…
- 2FA
One thing that I love about Umbrel is that its design is simple, elegant, and uncluttered. Umbrel just plain looks awesome with an obvious eye for design. With all the feature requests, one of mine would be to keep up the great design work!
Other requests to increase user confidence:
- 2FA for login (via Authy, etc.)
- 2FA to view seed phrase (separate setting for those who want it)
- 2FA to confirm transaction (separate setting for those who want it)
- Anything that can help harden security
I’ll take simpler features with rock-solid security over lots of features but less security.
Keep up the great work!
A Kubernetes stack that is therefore resiliant and auto-restarts . A good example is “Kubernetes Aerokube Moon” stack.
@The_Lorax I’m happy to Design the GUi if it still needed, not sure I can build it from zero but if we are happy using some existing Ui frameworks I’m all in for it!
Not sure this topic is still valid to submit Features Requests or shall we just use GitHub issues? @mayank @lukechilds there’s also a nice freemium alternative
IMHO, I think here we can discuss first about new possible features, to see if all are doable or not, or make sense or not… Many people propose features because they personally like, use regularly or think are cool, but not all are really necessary.
Umbrel already have tons of apps and adding even more will be like a christmas tree.
We should add only those that really are good and necessary for a specific situations, usage and a good amount of users.
Once are established, to be posted on github as feature request and devs will take them from there in the pipeline.
But we need more feedback from devs here. If we post and post but no feedback is like an echo chamber.
@DarthCoin I agree we’ve been quiet here, but we sure have been keeping an eye on this post and keep visiting it a lot!
@n080dy ideally it’s best to keep the feature requests here, and open GitHub issues for things related to Umbrel’s source code (eg. performance improvements, bugs, etc).
Keep the amazing feature requests coming folks!!! We already got 2FA, there’s more coming soon!
Please, need a “plugin force uninstall” for when plugin uninstall hangs.
Torq is interesting and is docker ready
I like disabling the dashboard during the IBD, however I think its a bit harsh. Imagine you just got your raspberry pi, you install umbrel and now you must wait sometimes days before you can play with your new shiny thing. This is not a great user experience.
Disable anything that require the IBD to be completed. Let the user explore the dashboard but prevent reckless things that would require IBD to be finish. This allows to familiarize yourself with the system without risking to break too many things.
User should learn to practice PATIENCE.
Patience is the key to run a BTC/LN node.
- A dashboard function that allows you to see temp, memory usage etc, graph plotted.
- From said dashboard, it would be exceptional if there was an option to select a RAID1 function so those of us on desktops could feel comfortable with larger channel balances.
- Easy option to alter bitcoin conf file without going into CLI.
- Maybe an option to have clearnet access as well as TOR. ( Again, avoiding need for CLI. )
