How to migrate from a Raspberry Pi Umbrel to Umbrel Home

I have problem migrating from Rapi4.

I started Umbrel Home, connected, created account, started migration assistant, then error message

After that Imcould not access Home again, it did not starte Umbrel OS fully

After many restarts and reconnects it started the migration, but no progress bar visible.

Now I cannot login any more.
Neither via Umbrel.local nor via IP address (I gave it a fix address in my FritzBox Router (like I did with Raspi, but another one of course).
No chance to get connected.
I am in same WiFI.

Any idea?
I try another post, I have restriction for just 1 embedded picture here.
And I can Onlyforyou 3 posts :man_shrugging:t3:, so not able to post pic with migration screenshot, but no progress visible

This is after first error message

No way to connect and load Umbrel

Then it started Umbrel migration assistant

So I created a temp user and started the migration and the progress bar never moved. I left it over night. I came back the next morning to it now just the background with no progress bar or nothing else. I unplugged the hd and power cycled. It rebooted into the temp account like nothing ever happened. I started the migration again. the progress bar made no progress and the hd light on the ssd was not active so something was wrong. I decided to power cycle and now it is Effor: Failed to start containers and my temp password does not work over SSH. I think I bricked it. Is there a hard reset?

Ugg, and so I plug my pi back in to stay synced and not the red light is flashing suggesting some sort of power problem. *facepalm

Hi @igor1 Apologies for the delayed response.
Were you able to try the following?

Please let me know if you had any trouble with the process above.

Hi @Sevenmead

Sorry to hear about your issues here. Are you still unable to access the Raspberry Pi and Umbrel Home instances? Also, may I ask what type of hard-drive you’re using?

I suggest turning your Pi on/off, and then see if you get any specific error page at umbrel.local, then we can resolve any issues from there.
If you are able to access the dashboard again, can you please navigate to the settings dashboard on umbrel.local, select START under troubleshooting and share the resultant logs here.

Hi @CloudWork3r
Sorry to hear about your issues here. Are you still unable to access your Umbrel Home? In that case, you can use the following steps to factory reset it:

  1. Flash https://download.umbrel.com/U2303/umbrel-usb-reflasher.iso to a USB stick with balenaEtcher
  2. Shutdown your Umbrel Home
  3. Insert USB stick into Umbrel
  4. Turn on Umbrel
  5. Wait for Umbrel to automatically reflash it’s internal SSD and turn itself off (~5 minutes)
  6. Remove USB stick from Umbrel
  7. Turn on Umbrel
  8. Wait for Umbrel to complete initial boot (~5 minutes)
  9. Go to http://umbrel.local/ and complete setup

In terms of migrating your data, first, if you could please attached the drive back onto your Umbrel Home and then navigate to the settings dashboard on umbrel.local, select START under troubleshooting and share the resultant logs here. That will help me isolate any specific problems that are preventing the migration from completely successfully.

Yes. I found the answer on the forum right after I asked. Thanks for the response.

My Pi is fine. Though I had to swap in a new board… but it’s up an running. I am still locked out of my Home and need to hard reset it.

Hi @Sevenmead

Just checking in, were you able to make any progress with these steps. Happy to help if you run into any troubles with it.

Ok so I have the Umbrel Reset.

The OS is not finding the hard drive. When plugged into the first port the power LED on the drive is solid… or it was… not it’s not. But it would not go solid on either of the other two.

here is my log file
http://cloud.greenlightradio.com:8181/index.php/s/vU29tiChcFWG3T2

I am using a Crucial SSD and a standard USB interface from the original recomended umbrel setup

I’ve tried to migrate my raspberry pi four to the Umbrel home three times. Two times in one port and one time in another port. The mitigation process gets about 2/3 and then the initial umbrella home sign-up page appears so, I can’t login with my raspberry pi four login Password, just with the initial set up login.

My raspberry pie 4 is running 5.4 and I updated the umbrella home to the 1.0 and check that update is correct.

I’ve done a couple resets on the umbrel home and one shut down on the umbrel home.

Hard drive activity light goes dead about 1/3 of the way through. I’ll let it sit for a couple hours. hopes are not high

Yah, completely stalled. I will aslo add that it took 4 tries to get the home to recognize the harddrive

I can’t use this function. When I click on Migrate, all it does is open a little window, telling me to open Migration Assistant, containing an OK button. When I click that, the popup window just closes, that’s all.

Hey @charona! Sorry for the confusion. Migration Assistant only supports transferring data from a Raspberry Pi to Umbrel Home at the moment. It does not work on other devices.

I followed the provided steps, yet after step 7 is complete I’m not able to log back in to the migrated data, it’s empty again.

Works wonderfully.

Just one question - migrated LNBoss - which is deprecated in the meantime.

How does one remove a deprecated app - right clicking on the app only has “view in app store” which obviously fails.

Thanks! m

Hello.
Thanks for the tuto. However I have a problem during step 6 to 7 as shown in screenshot. Do you know what it means?
