Wanderer image installed by umbrel app store is not app compatible

I’m hoping someone who updates the app store with new versions of apps reads this.

First of all, I’m very thankful to see that we can update environment variables for apps in Umbrel OS 2.0. It has made troubleshooting this kind of issue much more sticky than the previous workaround of just updating the .yml file every time the app updates. Really nice!

But I want to make a special note that Wanderer, specifically, has a separate image for both their web and db variables if you want it to be compatible with their currently-in-beta mobile app. Details are here: Mobile app support | wanderer Documentation

Currently, Umbrel’s .yml config pulls the version of Wanderer that does not include mobile app compatibility. Is there any chance this can be changed in the next round of updates on the Umbrel app store? If not, I’ll just keep manually updating the web and db images to the latest version as mentioned above.

Thanks for the attention to this, and hopefully this helps someone else who might be interested in self-hosting their wilderness hikes and tracking them with the Wanderer mobile app!

UPDATE: Looks like I may have spoken too soon about being able to change the image from the environment variables section as detailed above. I discovered that all variables are resting exclusively under the environment section, where the images exist outside of it in the services section.

This is what Umbrel OS creates:

But this is where the images sit today in the base docker-compose.yml (I made a manual edit to this file as a test, knowing an update will overwrite it):

In order for the mobile app to work after updates, Umbrel will need to change the docker-compose.yml file to include the -app flag as shown in the screenshots above.

Final update: I was able to successfully load the -app flagged version of both the web and db images but I needed to remove the @sha256 hashes Umbrel includes in the docker-compse.yml file.

Mobile app compatibility will break the next time Umbrel updates Wanderer unless this flag is added, so note that this is potentially temporary before you allow Wanderer to update from the Umbrel App Store.
