The site can't be reached

Since a few weeks, I cannot go to umbrel.local or to the IP adress when typing in my web browser. I always get the error message “The site can’t be reached”. It’s the same on my phone… I have no idea what to try.

I usually use Safari or Chrome on my MacBook and Safari on my iPhone. I’ve done it this way for 1+ year.

On Sparrow wallet, when trying to connect to my Personal Electrum server it says: “SOCKS: Host unreachable. Check if the proxy server is running.”

Any idea on what I should do?

Hey @houmous the IP address may have changed.
Have you tried rescanning the network with angryip.org or fing.com for a new IP?

Thanks. I managed to find a solution. SSH into Umbrel and restart. It was stuck for whatever reason for 3 weeks.

i have the same problem…Site cant be reached?..how do I fix this issue…? I’m so frustrated

As mentioned above, you could try SSH’ing in and rebooting with:

sudo reboot -h now

You could achieve similar results by unplugging the Umbrel, waiting for 10-30 seconds, and then plugging it back in.

If you’re trying to figure out your umbrel’s IP address, you can probably figure it out by logging into your DHCP server (probably your Internet modem which usually has connection details printed on it somewhere). Once logged in, look for the DHCP details. There should be a list of devices with their names (look for Umbrel) and IP addresses.

Thanks…I’m in…syncing with the blockchain rn…appreciate your help

Any idea why I wouldn’t be able to get back into umbrel.local suddenly this afternoon…I was syncing just fine this morning and the ether net cable on both the router and the pi were flickering green light…now suddenly no flickering light and I can load the page either by its IP address or its URL

Personally, I try to avoid using .local addresses. One of the reasons I do that is that they only work when you’re on the same subnet. This might be the issue you’re having, but maybe not… Anyway, sounds like your Umbrel is on your wired network. If you’re connecting from a machine that’s on WiFi, then it might be on a different subnet making the .local name resolution fail. There are other reasons it could fail…

FWIW, I also like to make my umbrel’s IP address a little more permanent. The DHCP interface of many Internet modems allows you to permanently assign the same IP to a device. Use that to make sure your Umbrel always has the same IP address. And then just always use the IP.
