Wow brilliant. Great news.
Looking forward to that.

How can i download the old version with the simple UI?
Great to see the updated Knots UI. Looks so good, well done Umbrel team
I would be interested in this as well.
just started installing it and now its downloading the node.
But I also cranked up the networking which I will have to figure out how to make that persistent after reboots.
Is there a way to get it to connect more nodes to sync? Because even on the one I compiled and ran it off of Debian Server only syncs to 10 connections at a time.
Also, is this a full node? If not, I am going to change that.
You need to port forward at router level to allow more than 10 connections. For example on my Knots node I have 124 at the moment.
I think its a software limitation because adjusting some irq and memory allocation last night to increase throughput gained me two extra connections. So my sync is now wavering between 10 and 12 connections which the 12 connections drops back to 10 about 30 minutes later after connecting. Port forwarding wouldn’t do anything unless there are some sort of outside proxy mapping the external IP. Which I could check if a proxy is trying to access the network to map.
Don’t think so. I’ve got Knots on an RPi. Also had it on a Mini PC. Both stock Umbrel no tinkering in the node settings. Just router settings and the connections went up immediately
After analyzing the way bitcoind behaves, its holding onto a stalled connections during sync. Opening the port didn’t improved anything. However changing the way it detects stalls and boots stalled node connections changed it dramatically. I now have 293 connections without port forwarding. But its not a config and I’ll submit what I found to the git since I had to alter source code and compile.
Hey look at this shiny thing while we sellout behind your back!
Did the number of connections speed up the sync?
yes. But I noticed testing making a node on a sata SSD vs 5400rpm sata hdd vs nmve SSD the faster the drive is and bandwidth completed the task quicker. After altering the ban node timeout, it just made the temporary file bigger so I was able to download quick (2 days), but it took almost 3 days with the nmve 4 days with the WD Blue SSD and 6 days with the WD purple to finished processing and with the occasional add of new blocks.
Now theoretically if the temp files were in ram all of it would be faster, but serious hardware like that would cost thousands of dollars. (i.e. AMD Eypic with 1TB of ram).
What if I don’t want to update bitcoin core and I want to run an older version? Can I run an older version of Bitcoin core and still update the user interface that the Bitcoin node app provides?
Feedback: The video is just an ad. And your new page is now just an ad. The first line did tell me why I didn’t want it. “Store your files, download and stream media, run a Bitcoin node, and more — all in your home.” Since I didn’t want to do anything but run a node I knew it was too much. I couldn’t figure out how to download the Umbrel OS for the Pi 5 on this new website. Scrolled all the way down, finally found it through some link but can’t say that I can repeat it. Your new Umbrel.com is just one giant ad that doesn’t seem to let you go anywhere else but their item and that you want it. Luckily my subliminal meter is broke so. I can see beyond the page and it’s purpose.
Hey @Froman1960!
I totally get that the new site and video might feel like advertising at first . Personally, I think the redesign is really well done, because it presents Umbrel as a full platform in a very appealing way, including Node, Storage, and Media features. The ad really makes you curious and shows what’s possible at home.
If you only want to run a Bitcoin Node, the site can feel a bit overwhelming at first. Keep in mind that UmbrelOS is designed for the Umbrel Home, and support for other devices is best-effort and not guaranteed.
By the way, if you Google “Umbrel Raspberry Pi 5,” the first result takes you directly to the installation page, so you can get the download very quickly…
F Bitcoin Core, remove it from the Store! Long live Knots!
Wow, such arguments, much depth.
‘Dark mode’ is horrible to read. Please enable ‘normal human reading mode’ soon please.
Also, running 1.0.3, I am getting stuck on 78% when downloading initial block chain. I am on my 3rd attempt now, will see if this time it works and does not stop at 78%
A lot of people - me included - faced this problem. Try closing all apps on your Umbrel until the IBD is complete. Also run Knots instead of Core, not that that would do anything, it’s just that Knots is better.
@denny ok, here’s a math lesson for you to support my statement. 80 bytes = no immoral content ability in mempool for miners to potentially mine it in a block and pollute all nodes forever. 100,000 bytes enables immoral images and even a short video. This is the biggest potential chink in Bitcoin’s armor in my 13 years owning the most pristine asset on earth.
Is that better stated Denny?
