I’m at my wit’s end here with trying to access my Umbrel. It has worked for a couple years up until now a couple days ago. Now I can’t even log in.
My immediate issue is that I cannot reach the umbrel.local login page. When trying to SSH into my Umbrel via terminal (macOS), there’s no prompt to enter my password for the Umbrel; all it does is take me to a new line to enter free text versus a password.
I have not swapped out the 1TB SSD yet as I thought I read somewhere that my Bitcoin is stored there (perhaps someone can correct me?). I have some Bitcoin on my Umbrel node and I’m nervous that I’ve lost it from some random occurrence.
Some context:
We recently moved and everything was plugged in with the exact same setup as before the move (ISP’s modem > TP Link Wifi Router > Ethernet to Umbrel). I’ve swapped out the power source, ethernet cable, and even purchased a larger microSD card/flashed the new microSD with the umbrelOS in case the previous 64GB one was full.
The Umbrel Node is powered by a Raspberry Pi 4. The LED is a solid red, with an occasion set of 4x green blinks.
I’m open to trying anything at this point to gain any traction. If someone could help, I’d really apprciate it!
The first thing I would check is to switch from the http://umbrel.local URL to just going directly to the local IP address. Be sure you’re doing this for both the browser and the SSH session.
If that doesn’t work, then, since you now have two SD cards, I would try re-flashing the old one and running with that old SD card but WITHOUT your SSD plugged in. If that setup boots, then maybe it means the issue is your SSD or its enclosure. If that SSD-less setup doesn’t work, then maybe it means you’re not flashing the SD cards correctly, the LAN/power cables are not well seated, or perhaps your Raspberry Pi went bad,… but at least you can start doing some fault isolation to figure out where the problem might be occurring.
By the way - yes: your critical data, like you LN wallet, are stored on the SSD device.
Update: after re-flashing the original microSD, I was able to run the umbrelOS once more. I now get an “Error: Failed to start containers” message.
I see there’s another thread dedicated to this error so I will mark this post as resolved as my main issue of not being able to reach the umbrel dashboard login is resolved.
