Issues to install Umbrel OS x86 System

I created an usb bootable for Umbrel OS x86 system but every time I try to boot my old desktop, it seems the boot does not work. My desktop stays on the dark screen with cursor flashing at the top of the screen. I used the most recent file available on github but it does not work. is there any other way to install Umbrel OS x86 via command line instead via usb bootable process? I tried it in different laptops and it still did not work. is anyone able to advise possible solutions please?

It sounds like you didn’t image the USB right or maybe the USB is bad. Do you see any files when you open the USB on a computer?

ok ive just did that today on a Mac mini.. 2or 3 gen.. old. runs smooth as F. keep trying.. if Balena Etcher flashes it and its “good” it should work if you chose the right file for your machine.. just hold “option/alt” button down when you startup or maybe a F12 ?? F1? google your machine see what it is? the umbrella will pop up when you get to a screen that asks where do you want to store “umbrel AT” follow the screen about the restart and login. umbrel umbrel 1st time..

he needs to start the computer WITH THE USB… hold boot order button down it sounds like the missing link.

I’m having the same issue , I have tried 3 different USB drives (one was purchased new just to see if that may have been the problem) on 2 different computers (both running on AMD Phenom2 X6 processors with 16 gig of ram) , I have tried Flashing with both Balena Etcher and Rufus getting the same results. The systems just refuse to boot from the USB drive and will go no farther than the Loading Operating system… with a flashing bar underneath. Both systems will boot quickly on other USB bootable software ( tried that also just to make sure there was not and issue booting from a USB on either system )

I tried on a 3rd system I had available to use (installed using a Balena Etcher Flash) basically the same setup as the first 2 systems I tried, same type of processor (Phenom 2) and brand of Ram (CORSAIR Vengeance DDR3) but with a MSI 970A-G43 Plus Motherboard and 32 gig of ram and it loaded with zero issues , the first 2 systems had a Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 in one system and a Gigabyte 880GM-USB3 Motherboard in the other . Clearly the older Gigabyte boards were not the way to go

ok you have to "unpack the file"using the finder not the “default easy way??” it worked.
