Increase Raspberry pi4 Ram using Bitcoin core 28.0.0

How can i increase the amount of ram on a raspberrry pi4 within Umbrel Bitcoin core 28.0.0 ?
I am currently syncing 1% aday i have an external SSD drive not the quickest BTW i thought it would only take max 10 days to sync the core ? Need some advice please

Go to your bitcon-core»3 dots next to “Connect”»Advanced Settings»Optimization»Cache Size

You should have the default value at 450(Mb). Now, depending on how much ram you have and if you don’t have any other apps installed and running, you can even quadruple the value.

Example, with 16Gb of Ram and no other apps running just bitcoin-core syncing, I would set the value from 450 to 1800.

Once you have downloaded the entire blockchain, remember to set it back to the default value: 450.

Ok i have changed the value from 450 to 1800 but no change to the slow syncing.
I think its the download speed thjats the problem very strange because my download connnection should be 80 Mbps not 0.5 ish …Advice needed on haw to increase my connection on a Raspberry pi using Umbrel … thanks in advanced

It’s very difficult to tell you exactly what’s happening to you because there’s a lot of context that we don’t know.
From the little you mention, it seems that you have a “bottleneck” in your network that directly affects your RPi. Again, this is based on what you say.
The problem, probably, can originate in your router with some configuration that affects the IP of your raspberry. Maybe some restriction based on QoS.

If it’s not in your router, maybe something in between your router and your RPi. I don’t know how you connect to your router.

And if it’s none of the above, maybe some problem in your installation of umbrelos, maybe you updated badly recently… I don’t know. There are many factors in between and we don’t know the context you are in with the little information you give.

Thanks for the reply…

My Rpi is linked to the router via a ethernet cable. Im using a Rpi 4 with 4GB of ram, 16 Gb Micro sd card, 2TB external hard drive its only a 150mb read/write - USB 3.0. Clean install of Umbreal OS . ISP gives me a steady 80Mbps download speed on my windows 10 pc connected to the router. I can’t be the only 1% a day club am i

Well, let’s take it one step at a time…

I tried to give you some clues to start eliminating possible causes of the problem. I suppose you’ve already entered your router to verify that there is no configuration that is limiting your RPI.

On the other hand, and since you add more information about your situation, I’ll make some observations.

1.- You say you have an Rpi 4 with 4GB of ram. This is already starting to fall short/small and can limit you quite a bit. I’m not saying it’s the origin of the problem but it does have a lot of influence.

2.- At first you said: “…i have an external SSD drive…” and then you say: “…2TB external hard drive its only a 150mb read/write…”.
In the end, what do you have?
If it turns out to be an external hard drive (150mb read/write), this also limits you a lot and downloading and indexing the blockchain will cost more time and effort. As I told you about the RAM: I’m not saying that it’s the origin of the problem, but it does have a lot of influence.

But, well… let’s do a test to clear up some doubts. Search the Umbrel app store, in the “Networking” section, for an app called “Librespeed”. Install it and do the test. If the results it gives match what your ISP provides, then it’s not a problem with internet access. If, on the other hand, the result is significantly lower or nothing at all, then it’s something else that’s causing the problem. Maybe what’s explained in points 1 and 2.

If the problem is internet access, I would start by checking my router like the ideas I’ve given you previously.

If it’s not a problem with internet access, you’d have to check other things. But with the above, you’ve already eliminated potential causes of the problem.

Thanks for the info you have provided . The external Harddrive is 2Tb in space reads/writes at 150mb Im thinking it’s the Harddrive. I should invest in a nvme m.2 drive with a 3.0 USB connection .
I’ve looked through the Router settings and all looks normal , speed is acceptable looking at the results from Librespeed check.
