IBD stops syncing overnight

Hello Umbrel Community,

I have been trying to get my node up and running for over two months. I have never had a successful IBD, as it inevitably stops syncing overnight.

A lot of the troubleshooting I see says it’s “probably the hardware”. I have a Raspi 4 8GB with a WD 1TB SSD. I have switched out the power supply for an official Raspi supply. This is plugged into a UPS. I have used two different recommended SSD cases (UGreen and Orico). I have tried two different brands of 32GB mSD (Sandisk and Samsung Pro). The only hardware I have not replaced is the Pi and SSD themselves, along with the Raspi case (I have a Flirc Raspi 4 case being delivered as I speak).

The issue has been the same regardless of the hardware I’ve used. I start the IBD, it runs swimmingly. Some time in the middle of the night, it freezes up, and the IBD stops syncing. I try to run debug logs in the Umbrel dashboard which results in this error: Error: Failed to fetch debug data

Sometimes I can open the Bitcoin app, sometimes I can’t. When I can, it is connected to peers apparently, but no additional blocks will sync. In the dozen times I have tried from scratch to get this to work, it generally freezes around the 13%, or 78 GB mark.

Here is the debug log from SSH - 0bin.net was not working, but here is the pastebin link:

At one point to test if the problem was with Umbrel, I attempted several times to run MyNode OS - the exact same thing as above occurred. IBD froze overnight.

Thank you in advance for your help. Special thanks to DarthCoin whose guides have been informative and educational.

Here’s the latest debug log - interesting errors have arisen concerning “circuit build time” and “clock jumps”. Could this have anything to do with my issues?

And now today, Umbrel doesn’t recognize my hard drive anymore. New logs here:

Umbrel error: Failed to mount external drive

And after the recommended reboot:

Please help!

Maybe try without the UPS?

Sounds weird, I know, but unstable power may mean failure to supply enough power to mount the SSD. ( Which is one of your symptoms. )

It is something to try before someone else with a more tech orientated approach suggests something.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will try that!

If this works, would that mean my current UPS is faulty? I live in a country where the electrical grid is quite unstable, so if this works I’ll have to find some sort of solution for the regular power cuts.

Just an update - the problem was my SSD. I got a new Samsung T7 and the blockchain downloaded in full without a hitch.

Thanks everyone for the support!
