If I run Knots will it reference the same stored blockchain as my 100% synced Bitcoin Core does? Or will it duplicate the blocks?

As my Bitcoin core ist 100% synched and running and I started Knots additional, knots started syching at 0%. So it seems, that it dupicates the blocks. Both running parallel without problems.
