Ok. I found the problem was balena Etcher. My system doesn’t like it. So I got the iso to start unpacking to the usb stick using rufus. However when I get to 96.3% it fails with an error message about the image. I tried on another PC with more ram and cpu power. Same thing. It appears there may be an error in the image for Umbrel. What do I do? Are there any other places I can download a working image. Like I said, I tried it on two different PC’s. One with rufus portable and the other with the installed version and it works GREAT right up to the end when it craps out and can’t read or something. I’d really like to try the Umbrel software. I downloaded it twice thinking mabey it was one of the images. Still didn’t matter. No go. Thanks!
No go. Doesn’t matter which extraction program I use I get an “
ISO image extraction failure” error message around 96%. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I’m following the instructions exactly and it works fine until about 96% into creating the boot USB install disk, regardless of whether I use the .iso file or the .img file. They BOTH crap out at 96% of the compile. Any assistance I can get would be very much appreciated. Anyone else have this issue? Thanks in advance.
Does anyone sell bootable umbrel install disks? I’ve literally tried everything I can think of (diferent computers, usb disks, usb ports etc. And I still it craps out at 96.8% of the USB flash drive image creation process. No matter what I do. I assume it’s trying to get drivers from my pc for my hardware that are incompatible or something so it won’t even create a bootable install disk? I can’t be the only one having this problem. I’ve looked at the logs but don’t understand them. I suppose I will just have to try some other option. I really like the simplicity of this one and I have a mini PC I was going to dedicate to it. Just upgraded the hardware for it. Bummer.
Well, I got it to create the USB drive image using UNetBootin. Rufus didn’t work. Crapped out at 96.8 no matter what. BaleaEtcher froze as soon as I selected the .iso file, no matter what.
But Unetbootin worked without a hitch to write the Umbrel install image to a USB drive. Whether or not it will boot and read it and install correctly remains to be seen. Hopefully this thread will help someone. I suppose the moral of the story is… “If one bootable image extractor doesn’t work. Try another one and hope for the best.
