All apps stopped working

Use the thread I linked to previously and this one: HOW-TO Using 2 SDDs in umbrellos (in a simple and practical way)

Credit goes to @jofraprez on that one.

wow… i see you’ve been active…
@mkh, take it easy… just because one problem looks like another doesn’t mean it’s the same problem… and you’re overlooking some details…
Let me explain before you escalate the problem:

If you look at the last image, it shows that the blockchain is 83% downloaded.

It is impossible for 83% of the blockchain to fit on the SD card.

So the SSD is there, detected.

So if you reinstalled everything a couple of hours ago at most, I don’t think you downloaded 83% in 2 hours?

That “low space” error in the log is probably because there are remnants of the previous installation with problems of bitcoin-core app.

Question: Are you only using bitcoin-core app on the RPI?

I ask because at this point, personally, I would format ssd, reflash sd with umbrel and start from scratch with a fresh installation and be sure not to have any problems

It would be a good idea to post screenshots of the result of the lsblk command and the cat /etc/fstab command. That will let us see how it’s configured to make sure it’s right.

It’s definitely not 83% synced. The app itself shows less than 1% still. But the settings still show only 51gb of storage. I also downloaded plex and tailscale, but haven’t used them yet. You’re probably right about starting over. Steep learning curve for an old hippie. :joy:

83% must be an error/bug, because mine is currently over 86% synced and also shows only 83% on that screen.

Well, now I’m getting conflicting advice.

Run those commands and post screenshots. It’s getting info only and not changing anything.

Here’s the first.

It doesn’t look like the RPI is seeing the SSD at all.

Your SSD is not working. Can’t really help you with that one. It’s a hardware issue. Either defective, not compatible, or not setup correctly.

Curious, why a RPI 5? A mini PC would be much better performance. Much better value overall.

Bummer. Ok, thanks for your help.

Yeah, sorry. Good luck.

Good question. I just read about someone doing it, and it seemed like a cool project. I have very little computer build/hack experience.

If the RPi5 is returnable (like if you got it off Amazon or something) you may want to consider that and getting a mini PC instead. Like a Beelink or something along those lines. Might even be less money for better performance.

Ok, I appreciate the advice. I suppose I can resell it.

Pis are great if you want to build something unique that a Mini PC or other computer can’t do. For example, I used a Pi Zero to build a SeedSigner.

Cool. My only real plan was to run a BTC node and maybe mess around with some of the other file storage and media apps.

You can keep it and use to for something else. For example, I initially thought I’d run Home Assistant off the Umbrel, but learned because it runs in a docker that you can’t install add-ons on Home Assistant. So I moved my Homebridge from my Pi to Umbrel and turned the Pi into a Home Assistant with add-ons.

Or keep it and make it work. It can still work for a Bitcoin Node with Umbrel once you get the SSD working.
