VPN with Umbrel OS

Hi, I’ve been searching on the forum but haven’t found anything similar to this.

I’m interested in hiding my IP for every connection. At the moment, this is possible running Umbrel 0.5 in a Linux machine with a VPN app already running on it.

However, if I understood correctly, updating to 1.0 (or higher) version would mean that Umbrel becomes the OS entirely when installed, so I’m not sure whether this possibility of having a VPN running in the machine is still available now, either buying an Umbrel Home or using Umbrel OS a x86 machine.

Sorry if it is a basic question, but any help on this would be highly appreciated to decide. Thanks!

Hello,
I have the same issue. I managed to install WireGuard via SSH and set up a VPN connection that works for all apps. However, the problem is that the configuration gets removed after each Umbrel update.

I read that it might be possible to achieve this using the Portainer app, but I’m not sure if it can route all apps’ traffic through the VPN.

@umbrel.dev I don’t understand why there isn’t a VPN option on Umbrel yet—it’s definitely a must-have for a personal server.

Is there anything like this on the roadmap?
