VLAN networking issues with umbrel in Proxmox

Hi there,

I ran into some networking issues/difficulties after I installed umbrel on proxmox. I have a very basic SDN setup in promox with one zone and VNet. This basically allows me to set certain VM’s up to use an IOT network in my home lab which is currently working with other vms’ (Home assistant, ubuntu, debian systems etc).

When setting the network configuration in proxmox of the umbrel vm to the VNET(IOT) it will receive an IP address properly and I can access the web gui. The system however cannot access the internet.

After some trouble shooting I changed the networking of the umbrel vm to use the main linux bridge in proxmox(vmbr0) which is my main LAN network. This worked. I was able to update the system and install apps etc.

I thought maybe the SDN configuration was causing the problems so I adjusted the network config in proxmox and created a VLAN attached to the main bridge(vmbr0.30) and checked to see if the networking would work and again it would not. The umbrel vm would get a ip address assigned and I could access the gui, but it would have no internet access. I did a sanity check and did a quick debian install on the side using the vmbr0.30 vlan and it has no problems accessing the internet.

Just an fyi for anyone trying to use vlan networking. Something isn’t playing nice.(Probably DNS)

Further to this. If i setup the umbrel vm on the main bridge and update the os, power off the system then switch the networking to the VNET IOT the system will continue access the internet and apps. I also turned off the cloudflare DNS option.
