Hi all!
Installed SearXNG on my Umbrel Home (Umbrel OS 2 beta) - works fine.
Installed Vane, configured it to use Ollama with local model on a Spark-box on the same network (works), and for search entered the URL of the local SearXNG (tried both localhost and IP).
Now every time Vane wants to do a web search, it gets stuck, forever…
I already disabled the switch “require Umbrel login” in the SearXNG settings.
What would be the correct settings?
I noticed that for a Umbrel Ollama install the url is now something like ollama_ollama_1:port, something similar needed to use Sear?
hey! Yep, same idea as Ollama. Try this as the SearXNG URL in Vane’s settings:
http://searxng-web:8080
That’s the internal address for the current Umbrel SearXNG app. localhost inside Vane points to Vane’s own container, not your Umbrel or SearXNG.
Update SearXNG from the App Store first if you haven’t already, as the current package has JSON search responses enabled and bot detection disabled for app-to-app requests. You can also turn “require Umbrel login” back on, since this address bypasses the browser-facing login.
If it still hangs after saving that URL, share the Vane app logs just after trying a search. That should help narrow down whether it’s the search request or the model getting stuck.
Thanks!
will try that and report back.
Update: yep, that did the trick. At first I tried to be smart and changed the port from 8080 to the one my SearXNG answers when I use it manually, but obviously the “internal” port when calling it from another app on the Umbrel it IS 8080
Now Vane is up and running with local model on my network and SearXNG on the same Umbrel as Vane. Nice
