It’s time to address an issue that has been weighing on my mind for some time: the update policy of apps within the Umbrel ecosystem. In particular, I want to highlight the lack of updating for many crucial applications such as Nextcloud.
The latest security patches, bug fixes, and feature enhancements often go unused as the developers behind the Umbrel ecosystem fail to provide regular updates. This not only poses a risk to the security of our data but can also impact the performance and reliability of the application.
As users, we should have the right to expect consistent and timely updates of the included apps from the developers and maintainers of the Umbrel ecosystem. It is essential that critical security vulnerabilities are addressed promptly and new features are made accessible.
I urge the stakeholders at Umbrel, therefore, to reconsider their update policy and ensure that all apps, especially those of essential significance like Nextcloud, are regularly and promptly updated. Only then can we fully realize the potential of our self-hosted solutions while ensuring the security of our data.
Let us work together to ensure that Umbrel OS is not only an outstanding tool for self-hosted applications but also a platform that stands at the forefront in terms of security, performance, and user-friendliness.
