No installation option on Raspberry Pi 5 over WIFI?

Hello,

I am trying to boot UmbrelOS on my Raspberry Pi 5 over WIFI using a Micro SD / USB drive.

I create “wpa_supplicant.conf” file with the WIFI credentials and added it to the boot partition. But UmbrelOS does not automatically connect to WIFI like Raspberry Pi OS does.

Have you already tried this method and successfully installed the OS?
If yes, please let me know!
Thank you very much in advance.

I have not tried to do the .conf since Umbrel 1.0 came out. I’m sure you already thought of this but if you have a keyboard, mouse, monitor and a junk cat cable just hook it to your modem and go from there.

Thank you so much for your attention!

My situation is a bit complicated…
Only a laptop, a raspi 5 (with no eripherals) and iPhone for tethering (i.e. no landline) are at my disposal.

Raspberry Pi 5 OS could automatically connect to my iPhone’s hotspot so that I can then establish a SSH connection from my laptop.

But with UmbrelOS, I wonder if LAN cable + landline is absolutely necessary…

Please let me know if you have any suggestions, and thanks.
