Migrating SSDs (1TB to 2 TB)

I want to migrate my Umbrel from a 1 TB SSD to a 2 TB SSD. I found a guide on the forums using on cloning the SSD with a Win PC using Macurim. I then Build the 1 TB (Source) SSD into my Win PC. Now, The SSD is not visible in Windows, tough I can find it in the disk management tool. I next connected the disk via an USB-SATA adapter and the results were the same. I guess this is due to the file system?
I have not installed Macurim since the disks arent visible in windows.
By now, I think I should have more success by using a live boot clonezilla environment on the win pc since this can access the file system.
Has anyone done this? Did it work? Are there any bumps that I should be aware of?
Thanks!

I just finished this migration. I had my node on pi4 with m.2 SATA 1TB ssd and needed to replace with 2TB m.2 SATA ssd.

  • downloaded Foxclone live USB image and set the live USB using balenaEtcher
  • connected both source and target ssd’s to my Win11 PC
  • boot into the Foxclone live USB environment
  • Select clone tab for disk-to-disk clone. Foxclone UI shows disk information to help correctly identify the right disks for this operation.
  • Clone operation proceeded at nice clip. Both disks were SATA SSDs and Foxclone completed the initial cloning in 52mins for 860 GB of content.
  • 2TB target disk now had a 1TB partition with the file content and 1TB of unallocated space.
  • Launched GParted (available in System Tools in the menu of the live USB environment) to expand the initial partition to 2TB.
  • GParted doesn’t show detailed disk info, so had to click around to confirm the disk/device I had selected was the target/cloned disk.
  • selected to resize the disk to the full 2TB
  • booted my pi4 with the target disk and all fine, 2TB space was recognized.

I was fortunate my pi4 runs on an Argon case with the ssd on a separate tray with USB3 connector, which doubled as an enclosure for the cloning operation, and the motherboard had a free on-board connector able work with the target 2TB sata ssd.
If you only have a single enclosure for ssd, you can still do this operation if you have free space in another drive by doing a backup of the 1TB source disk followed by a restore to the 2TB target disk.

Thank you so much, cloning and resizing worked perfectly with foxclone!
