Is it safe to upgrade bitcoind and lnd on the older version of Umbrel?

Hello, I am stuck with Umbrel 0.5.4 on my server, and not able to upgrade to the newer version. Currently I am using Bitcoin Core 26.0.0, but Umbrel offers me to upgrade it to 28.0.0. Is it safe to do this?

Yes. Why you are not able to upgrade your Umbrel?

I need it to be deployed to our server in the cloud, and the server needs to be managed by our chef so it is available in VPC, etc. Afaik it is not possible yet - How to update from umbrelOS 0.5 to the latest umbrelOS 1.x on Linux devices

Short answer: No. There is always a risk of possible errors or malfunctions.

Extended answer: Keeping our umbrelOS always up to date. The instability and constant errors in each update have led many umbrelOS users to adopt a terrible practice: not updating for fear that everything will stop working correctly. If we add to that the user who believes that the issue is to install umbrelOS, the apps that I need and forget about everything… Well, we have a magnet for problems.
Updates are necessary because, apart from aesthetic changes, they contain solutions to previous problems, performance improvements, new functions, etc.
umbrelOS is based on Debian and, with each update, you not only update umbrel, but also Debian with its own system updates. The apps that you have installed in umbrel are also updating.
In short, if you do not keep your version of umbrelOS up to date, you put yourself at risk and will get into trouble in the medium term. The worst thing is that you don’t get rid of the problem, but rather, most likely, when it explodes in your face it will be worse and require more time, work and effort to solve it.

I am in the process of migrating to my own setup of LND node, as new umbrel does not allow deploying it to existing linux machine.

btw upgraded Bitcoin Core and there seems to be no issues.

Upgraded LND, everything is fine so far
