How to upgrade Jellyfin?

Jellyfin client app on Firestick etc is now refusing to connect to Jellyfin server as it’s 10.8x

I have been looking for how to upgrade the app in Umbrel but can’t for the life of me find how… The app store just has ‘Open’ rather than Update or what you would expect, even though it has 10.9 as the latest version there. There appears to be no mechanism in the Jellyfin dashboard, either.

(Assuming of course that a newer version of Jellyfin is actually available for Umbrel, otherwise we are SOL)

I am trying to avoid un-installing and re-installing as I had a hell of a time getting network SMB shares to persist on reboot.

Umbrel might not yet have Jellyfin 10.9 available in their app store. If the store still only shows the “Open” button, it may mean the new version isn’t rolled out there yet. You’ll have to wait until it’s fully available on Umbrel’s app store or find a manual update method that’s suitable for your specific installation setup.

You may also be able to use the Portainer app to install a current version.

Hey @Dave007, sorry for the confusion. The Jellyfin app has been >10.8x for quite some time on umbrelOS, so let’s make sure that your umbrel doesn’t have some underlying issue that we need to resolve.

When updates are available for apps you should see a red notification bubble on the top right of the app store icon like this.

If you then open the app store you should see an “Updates” button that you can click.

You’ll then have the option of updating any apps that have available updates.

Let me know if this works for you. If not, we can troubleshoot.

You know when you’re looking in the fridge for the ketchup and can’t see it and you swear you’ve run out, then your significant other pops their head around and spots it instantly and you feel such a fool.

That’s me right now for not spotting the Updates tab in the App Store.
