Hi, i have tried to install umbrel multiple times and have not succeeded. i get past onboarding on first boot and am able to use and install apps. but once i reboot or shut down the machine to start it again it does not boot. please see the attached image to see what i mnea. i think i need longer for the drive to mount. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1196533524904280065/1339575805277114368/IMG_4889.jpg?ex=67af38b0&is=67ade730&hm=ef360cfb274895e3e0f98cd2d31e88ba502eeb58156f2ca942e37bd891715c95&
Without any further information to help us understand your situation (hardware you use, specifications, some random event, etc.), it has all the signs of being a hardware incompatibility issue.
I would start by updating the BIOS on your device but I can’t add more because more information is missing about your situation.
Hp 600 g1 tower. I74770 rx550 32gb ram. Reset bios already it is not a bios issue it is Umbrel.
I posted a photo of the log. Umbrel works fine as long as I don’t ever restart the machine. It is clearly an OS issue. I see some people used chat got to raise some times or something idk. Help please.
I’m going to go by what you say and by the very little that can be seen in the image of the supposed log of what appears on your screen.
Reset Bios is not the same as updating the BIOS to the most recent and latest version. Have you confirmed that you have updated the BIOS?
In the image of the supposed log, only a part of the entire log can be seen. The only thing I can see as an “error” is that it cannot mount the “/Data” folder. I can’t see anything else.
I know it’s tedious and you’d like to fix everything in one click but I’m not there and I can only go by what I see and what you tell me.
Start by checking the version of your BIOS and, if it’s not updated, take advantage of doing so.
Then, it would be convenient to check the installer you used for umbrelOS. In your case it should be called “umbrelos-amd64-usb-installer.iso.xz”.
Given the limitations of being at a distance and the information we have, we must rule out possible causes based on the symptoms shown.
i will update in a few, sorry cleaning 2 feet of snow rn
Take it easy… I’m dealing with 38 degrees Celsius here…
bios is the latest version, i have tried using multiple installers. i have used the usb installer for multipler versions of umbrel. same thing, i have even taken the drive out and flashed the regular os 20gb or so onto the drive and slapped it in booted and same thing, works till i turn it off. seems to be an issue with the time umbrel is allowing for data to mount.
i saw this on another post: “I noticed that data.mount has a limited time to execute. Basically, what I did was to make this time unlimited with the help of ChatGPT.” copy To disable the mount timeout for the device /dev/disk/by-partuuid/d1d36e34-2753-4dc7-96eb-3c9b5584e867, you can add the option noauto,x-systemd.mount-time… but i dont know how to do this if the system is not useable.
can i take the drive out and change files on another pc and slap it back in? not able to use terminal on the machine once it fails
Update. snow is crazy, subaru doesnt care tho haha. also changed some files in fstab and about to try booting.
Very well done!!.. I’m really glad that you were able to solve the problem yourself.
In fact, I’ll be keeping a note of your solution for the future. One never knows…
Enjoy your umbrella
