Against all odds, someone just solo-mined a Bitcoin block using Public Pool App on their Umbrel - and that’s nothing short of incredible.
Picture this: a tiny Bitaxe miner, quietly working away, connected to the Public Pool app running on their Umbrel, fully synced with their own Bitcoin node. No mining farms, no centralized pools, no middlemen. Just pure, unstoppable self-sovereignty in action.
This isn’t just a win for the miner - it’s a win for everyone who believes in decentralization and the power of running your own infrastructure from home.
Massive congrats to this legend for reminding us what it’s all about.
The Coinbase transaction of block 888989 reveals that the miner hit the block directly on their own node. The Coinbase signature even hints that they might be running their own public pool on Umbrel. Since the block was mined straight to their node, the available trail pretty much ends here.
But is that really all there is to it?
Let’s dig deeper: The address where the block was mined can actually be found on CKPool Stats. Turns out, the miner was still using CKPool up until 17 days ago.
So what does that tell us?
It looks like this lucky miner stopped using CKPool 17 days ago and switched to mining directly via their own node. The exact hardware remains a mystery - they didn’t register a worker name in CKPool. Based on the hashrate pattern that’s still visible (even if it’s now just an echo of the real rate), it’s likely a Bitaxe. One thing’s for sure: It’s not a Nerdminer.
