Umbrel installation failed - "Error: System service failed"

Hello,

I hope you are well.

I just tried to install Umbrel but while trying to connect to Umbrel local I got the message “Error: System service failed”.

Here is my setup:

  • Raspberry Pi 4 modèle B - 8GB
  • Official Raspberry Pi power cable USB-C 5.1V 3A
  • Crucial MX500 SSD - CT1000MX500SSD1 - 1 To - Serial ATA - SATA 6.0 Gb/s recommended by Umbrel
  • 32 Go microSDHC card SanDisk Extreme PRO 32 Go 100 Mo/s, Class 10, U3, V30, A1

I went to this support webpage Troubleshooting - UmbrelInfo
I am able to connect to my Umbrel through SSH using Putty but didn’t achieve to get the debug file.

Could you provide me some guidelines and help?

Thanks a lot!

lo

  1. That gitlab page is NOT Umbrel support page. It was in the past but is not anymore. Here you have all guides and troubleshooting for Umbrel
  2. to run the debug log, you need to be in the “umbrel” folder so first run cd umbrel.

Thanks for your answer and your help :+1:

I just did cd umbrel but I still can’t access to /umbrel/scripts/debug --upload

umbrel/scripts/debug
tail -f ~/umbrel/bitcoin/debug.log
tail -f ~/umbrel/lnd/logs/bitcoin/mainnet/lnd.log
docker ps

Thanks
Here is my debug file

The debug script did not automatically detect any issues with your Umbrel.

Can you help me to well exploit it?
Best

The answer is right there.
You had formatted the SSD in other format than ext4 or is simple damaged drive and / or cable is failing.
Start from scratch, with well connected drive, not formatted, just wipe the partition (umbrel installation will do it). Also re-.flash mSD card with latest Umbrel version

I just check the SSD and it was just in fact not enough push into its case :man_facepalming:

Oh, good that was just that. You were lucky.

Yeah not complicate at the end
The issue was between the screen and the keyboard ^^

Synchronized at 35% yet :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks for your advices!
