Raspi with 8gb microSDHC too small?

Hi everyone,
I’m going to install umbrel on a raspi with 1Tb on the SSD drive but I only have a 8gb microSDHC for the OS. I know that the standard recommandation is to use a 16gb one but I would like to have more info to know if a 8gb can to the job, mayby removing some packages ?

Thanks for your feedback

Hey there,

I have 64 Gb micro SSD and RPI OS occupies only 3 Gb on it.
Displayed as 54G/57G in Midnight commander.
The rest is located on external drive.

So you will be totally alright with 8 Gb microSD

That’ll work. 8gb SD card is totally fine. Although I decided to go with a 2TB SSD just to make sure I wouldn’t need to upgrade the drive anytime soon. With the full blockchain downloaded I think it’s about ~630GB right now. With ~210GB being added every 4 years you’ll likely max out a 1TB drive in 5-6 years – someone correct me if I’m wrong. Not a big deal at all, but I think well worth the extra $50 or $60.
