Opening balanced channels to various countries

Hi there,

I would like to open some balanced channel to as many countries as possible from my node which is up 24/7

Individual channels get off balance very quickly and you’re having to pay more often for rebalancing fees.

The procedure is based on trust as one party has to refund the other onchain.

It goes as follows:

  • A & B agree to open a 2M sat channel (1M on each end)
  • A opens channel for 2M, funded from his umbrel node’s BTC wallet and pushes 50%
  • B sends 1M onchain to A’s BTC address

It’s up to you choosing to be A or B

You can contact me via Telegram @Deekee62

Open a 2M sat channel to the node of your choice and then loop out 1M sats. Fees are relatively low and you don’t need to trust an unknown party.

Well, I don’t get it, stupid me!

So far I’ve opened 4 channels my way with very nice people from which I learned a lot from.

No need to learn it all at once. Just letting you know the option is there when your ready for it.

Thanks to all that trusted me!

My node is now successfully connected with balanced 1M channels to the following countries:

  • Switzerland :switzerland:
  • USA :us:
  • Australia :australia:
  • New Zealand :new_zealand:

Looking forward to add more countries soon!

If you want to open a channel to one of my node in the UAE :united_arab_emirates: you’re welcome but you will have to either Loop Out or wait for the channel to balance itself.

Also 5M sats channel as a minimum would be nice (10-15 sats are preferred though). If you good with all that I can send you a message on Telegram.

Hi Seccour,

many thanks for your reply and offer, as Umbrel is still in beta and should not be considered secure!

I’m not willing to risk that amount of sats for opening a channel in the moment. You also have to know, that I’m an absolute beginner and I wan’t to understand more first.

Have a nice day and stay healthy.

Regards, Dirk

Thanks to all that trusted me!

Just added Japan to my node and now successfully connected with balanced 1M channels to the following countries:

  • Switzerland :switzerland:
  • USA :us:
  • Australia :australia:
  • New Zealand :new_zealand:
  • Japan :jp:

Looking forward to add more countries soon!

Deekee,

thanks for opening a channel with me in Japan.
That was super easy and smooth…

Let’s connect the whole world!

Greetings from Tokyo

I’d like to get in on the action. Way newb here. Still wrapping my head around peers, channels, liquidity, loops, risks. My node is one week old and just started learning this yesterday.

Looking for 3-4 channels 500k to 1m Sats … for now.

I’m in Northeast, USA.

Sorry, of not opening a channel to your node, my funds are limited and I want to stick to my idea of adding only countries which are not on my list yet :slightly_smiling_face:

  • Switzerland :switzerland:
  • USA :us:
  • Australia :australia:
  • New Zealand :new_zealand:
  • Japan :jp:
  • Netherlands :netherlands:

Thanks for your understanding and have a nice day

Hey @Deekee,
if you don’t mind, I’m adding a 2M channel from :de: and trying to loop out 1M once established.

Don’t want to split it in half?

That’s what Loop Out does. It creates an automated off-chain to on-chain swap (1M in this case) through Lightning Labs server. So in fact the channel is balanced afterwards without the need for the other side to act.

Always wanted to give it a try.

I think, split/push is probably the easiest and cheapest way, but it obviously involves some trust, but it’s better to just have one balanced channel, as the individual channels get off balance very quickly and you’re having to pay more often for rebalancing fees. It’s also better to have a balanced channel as more will route through you.

That’s right.
Fees are on me now. Loop process is already running, mempool fees are increasing at the moment, so I think it’ll take some time to finish.

Opened up balanced channel from Sweden :sweden: and Deekee sent half back through on chain transaction
Thanks Deekee, now just 187 countries to go!

The list of countries I’m connected to is grow, thanks to all for the trust

  • :switzerland:Switzerland

  • :us:USA

  • :new_zealand:New Zealand

  • :australia:Australia

  • :jp:Japan

  • :netherlands:Netherlands

  • :sweden:Sweden

  • :fr:France

  • :de:Germany

  • :hong_kong:Hongkong

how can you tell the country of origin? that’s cool i’d like to check for my channels as well.

In some cases you can while checking 1ml.com, I’ve just contacted people who stated their country in the forum or profile to open a bc with me…
