Moving UmbrelOS to another PC

Hi there, I started a Bitcoin node synch currently 20% on an old pc I had but realised that it’s quite lacking in specs and slow.

I have ordered another PC with better specs and want to know if I can just drop my hard drive in and continue syncing or is there a better way to do this?

Not good with coding so just need the most simple method. TIA

With the backup feature in settings, you should be able to back up to an external hard drive or NAS, restore from the backup, and continue as usual (you will need to install UmbrelOS on the new device first!).

Hey thanks for getting back, I’m going to backup like you said but do you know what would happen if I just took the hard drive and dropped it into another x86 machine ie would it corrupt/break anything?

It should work in theory! Linux is more permissive than Windows when moving the hard drive to a different motherboard/system.

Thanks, I’m going to try it after backing up,m just incase.

Will post results

I’m not sure if this is needed, but I would stop all active apps/operations. Then I would back it up.

It should. The only time it wouldn’t is if you went on the debain side and married it to the tpm via secure boot.

Hi team, I tried to move the SSD across and gave me a few errors so I just installed a fresh copy of umbrel on the new PC.

I am now trying to backup to the new umbrel on my new PC using the built in backup option on 1.5 but when I goto search for the old umbrel server and scan it doesnt find it.

Is there a manual way to do this. My current setup is server 1 connected to modem in a different room and server 2 is in my office connected to the local network via mesh wifi system. I can http into both of them using my pc (non umbrel).

What I am trying to do is create a backup from server 1 to server 2 and then restore from that backup on server 2, is that possible? Any ideas?

Also I am doing this so I dont lose my Bitcoin Node synch which is currently at 50% on server 1
