Here are a few of my must haves

I’ve just been trying out Ubrel OS just a few days, on old dual Xeon server, So some of this may have been missed or not found yet. But my absolute must haves to run Ubrel.

If someone can chime in where to find any of this.

Ability to add RAID array, or at least local disks to the storage pool.

A NUT client or server in store install and widget on the dash, ZimaOS uses one called Peanut from Zima community store, also set up to shut the system down cleanly.

One more thing, more hardware sensor and monitoring customization would be nice.

Haven’t try the Frigate app, only installed do far, but question is does Umbrel use/see a GPU and Coral TPM for use in Frigate for detection and AI use?

So far HomeAssistant works great, Install of HA, Frigate and Tailscale all went seamlessly.

Had to add NUT-client from cli and edit the configs manually.

UmbrelOS is a free-form platform that you can expand and customize to your liking. It also allows for sharing with others via an App Community Store where you can post and share your customized apps with others and use apps that others have developed.

Thanks Rob,

Just my few recommendations for Umbrel, and like I stated, I’ve just been using it a few days so
I’m not as versed on it, and have very little docker type knowledge, and not sure where to begin, other
than following a step by step.
Many of these tuts are so (expect you know what and why your doing it) and how to get to what you are doing.
I may try one of these as I am not using it for anything other than testing.
And have already had to reinstall twice.
On that note, I have to install Umbrel using a Clover EFI boot disk USB to get this old hardware to boot
and install it. And then keep booting with the USB still in. It installs to HD but the USB just allows
or fakes that it is an EFI system and boots from HD.
I tried both the IMG and UmbrelOS Installer to try to get it to install, neither would boot.
Test bed is an old Intel SV5000 dual Xeon server. I’ve installed many things on it and many won’t
because of it’s EFI, I’ve installed Openmediavault, TrueNAS, many Linux distros.
But for some reason I had to install ZimaOS and Umbrell using the Clover boot drive booted into EFI.
Both work fine after boot.

Point 1) A Nut installer for UPS is critical, not nessisarily a widget, but would be nice, but at least system wise to monitor the
UPS nut-server, (currently a QNAP NAS as it is on 24/7 and serves every PC in house
and shuts down gracfully with the UPS shutdown cmd.

Point 2) The lack of added storage other than USB is really not even fathomable.
I tried adding a second drive with the community tut but must have missed something as Umbrell wouldn’t boot.
Must have messed up the fstab entry somehow. I had to remove drive and on another Linx box find the fstab and remove the fstab
entry, and it rebooted fine.
I also tried building a RAID0 with mdadm had it mounting but again messed up the fstab again.

Point 3) A network widget would be really nice as almost every NAS or homelab would be mission cirtical as far as
network use and traffic.

Here are some of the NUT apps, most can be found on github or a goggle search.
Not sure but if you could point me to something you think will work, please reply, and I’ll try it.
As stated again not versed with how dockers or Umbrel works.

nutw
nut -client - standard Linux client
rups - rust
PeaNut - I used this in ZimaOS from community store or GitHub - Brandawg93/PeaNUT: A tiny dashboard for Network UPS Tools
Another Docker set up I’m looking over Set up nut-upsd and peanut in your homelab | unixorn.github.io
Thanks,
Keith

To be able to add more storage is an absolute must - and it must be easy for normal people like me.

1TB of storage on my drive is made up with Bitcoin Knots. I don’t have the knowhow to hack my way into adding another drive, needs to just be a few clicks and it’s done.
