currently I always have to update my Umbrel via the terminal.
For some reason the “Check Update” does not work. Does anyone have an idea how I can fix this?

I had the same problem. On my node it was the Pi-hole that blocked the umbrel from checking for updates. After uninstalling the app and setting the DNS in my router back to default, the update check works again.
