Change default blockchain download directory. How to?

Hi @pjjp !
Thanks for further help! My external drive is ext4 formatted.
I am not giving up yet and I will post here my potential success with this.
I like your solution the most because it is simple. Even I do not understand what
those 2 lines are acually doing. Planning to ask chatGPT about that.
Thanks for now!

I have additinal question: what user name have you setup when setting up Umbrel via GUI? There is request to provide user name and password.

Hi @Jan007,
I asked chaGPT myself and this was the solution “she” gave me.

Hi @Jan007,
I setup my Umbrel with “umbrel” username.

For further clarification:

  1. installed Umbrel (in my virtualbox).
  2. installed Bitcoin Node
  3. started running Bitcoin Node
  4. stopped Bitcoin Node
  5. make the changes to /ftc/fstab mentioned above
  6. restart Umbrel
  7. I’m not sure, but I believe that I created the umbrel folder and its sub-bitcoin folders in my external usb before the changes

hope this helps!

I didn’t know it is so easy to stop bitcoin app!

Attached my not verified (I have not yet tried to reproduce) manual for setting up Bitcoin node in umbrelOS 1.2.2 (running on x86 dual core Celeron) with 2x 1TB SSD disk over USB ports.

I cannot see in UmbrelOS interface total disk capacity. I still see only internal drive (as @pjjp mentioned already).

setup UmbrelOS with 2x 1TB external disk - publish ready.txt (3.7 KB)

Any feedback welcome.

Warning! Things may break when you update your Umbrel. I did with 1.3 version. Giving up with this stupid setup. Unraid!

Maybe this guide can be useful to all you.

Hi @Jan007
you’re right, this is a mess. When I upgraded to Umbrel 1.3 I lost my changes in /etc/fstab/, so I had to made my changes again, and now it’s working. Hope this helps.
