Can we add second hdd to the pool with 1.4?

There are workarounds to get second or more HDDs to add to the storage pool which fails after every update and have to repeat the steps again. We were supposed to get official method for adding HDDs to the pool with 1.4 release.

Is it out yet? I really need this.

In theory, it’s no longer in beta… Also in theory you could use multiple external drives freely, as long as you have an umbrel home… or make a “fix” so that it works on any device

I’m in the same boat. How can this be done?

I’m currently at 911 GB / 983 GB on my 1 TB SSD and was wondering the easiest way to upgrade… I probably would just jump to a 2 TB SSD since I’ll start using the new Files feature.

What can be done?

Based on what you’ve mentioned, I would personally add a 2nd disk (2TB) and store the blockchain there, freeing up storage on your current disk and continuing to use it for other things.
But this can’t be done natively with 2 clicks. You have to modify the umbrelos configuration a bit.

Any documentation on how to do this? I have an external HD plugged into my Umbrel Home, that I’d like to extend to apps. I’m running out of storage on the internal disk.

If you have a Umbrel Home, in theory and according to what they promise, you can use an external disk as storage without problem.

Now, All depends on your needs and the apps you use.

For example, in my case, I installed Bitcoin Core to run on disc 1 and put the blockchain on disc 2.
To achieve this, it cannot be done with a simple click as those of the Umbrel promise. You have to make some nodifications in the configuration.

If you are interested in the topic, I documented it in detail: HOW-TO Using 2 SDDs in umbrellos (in a simple and practical way)

And it could not be wrong to take a look at a mini manual of good practices that still is still in force with the most recent version 1.4: umbrelOS- Good Practices

Thank you very much for the response. Unfortunately your doc did not work for me. I followed the guide, but the changes to the /etc/fstab did not persist after reboot. Maybe the steps are different for Umbrel Home.

Yes, your case is strange because it works for any device. The only drawback with this method is that when installing an update, Umbrelos wipes it and you have to reconfigure it.
It is very strange that it did not work for you.

I’m more than open to the possibility that I’m doing something wrong lol wouldn’t be the first time. Maybe others on Umbrel Home can chime in with their experience.

So, they released the feature only for home? I think I really should switch to something else.
