My bitcoin core has been syncing for weeks now and it is stuck at 60% (this number gets lower as the blockchain gets bigger). I have restarted and it just goes right back to the same place. Also, I can’t seem to download my logs because my Brave browser keeps blocking the download…any fixes for this? I’m willing to provide anymore info to this thread
Hey @Green2J
Could you right click the Bitcoin core app and select “Troubleshoot” using http://umbrel.local/ and paste the logs in here? You should just be able to copy and paste it without downloading it.
Thanks for the suggestion…should I restart it before trying to produce the logs? It is taking a long time to produce the log (says “Loading…”)
Apparently, it’s too big to paste
Can you paste it to https://0bin.net/ and then send a link to it here?
your onion is in there if you dont want it shared id remove it.
Did you have a power outage or improper shutdown of some type?
you can allow brave to download it by … I think its right clicking the failed Download and choosing allow.
your having a issue with checksum at the block in question. Personally since you havent gotten anywhere I would start over. But I dont know what the others will say about that.
You could reindex but thats just going to pretty much start over .
Making a comment to follow. But thats my opinion. Start over before you get too deep.
The first 60% should go by rather quickly.
Are you using a ssd?
I am using an SSD…it’s over 60% at this point; that’s where it seems to hang up
I tried the thing in Brave; even tried to change the download settings…no dice
Can you explain what the onion thing means? Specifically, what does it mean for me whether I leave it or take it out?
your nodes address via tor is exposed in those logs. Its probably not a HUGE deal but up to you.
Did your power go out ? What caused this?
You really should Get a UPS for your Pi it prevents these issues from happening with power blinks.
Your getting checksum errors writing to your bitcoin index.
These guys may have another solution but I would start over since your not very far along.
You should be fully synced by now.
Absolutely not fully synced…I’m assuming it has stopped syncing because the progress seems to be going backwards (I’m assuming it is because the blockchain is getting bigger).
I have the RP4 power cord hooked into a surge protector…you think I need a separate power supply?
While it’s possible I have had a power outage, I wouldn’t think that would brick the node, especially since it starts up and runs; just won’t sync (and I can’t seem to get any peers)
I deleted the post because I’m not exactly sure how to take out the onion address…someone should do an explainer on it
you’ve got a bad bitcoin block on your disk.
How it got there is beyond me.
Its probably growing backwards since its stuck there.
Its going to need to re verify. I was just trying to figure out what caused it to it doesnt happen again.
If its a bad disk drive we dont want to start over just to have it fail again at the same spot.
Like I said I would erase everything and start over.
Depending on how you feel about command line you could delete some stuff and try but really 60% you can get back to that in a day.
Ill be watching for what the other people suggest.
fyi your onion looks like this
drdytofatropeatsdj6io7l3xptubradbet6onoyno2yv7jicoxknyaz
Its probably not a big deal but I woudlnt leave it in public.
Good luck I had issues like this when i started. I started over 3 times and then when my node got to 100% it worked for a day and then had catastrophic disk failure
It happens… Its not umbrels fault
Does it indicate anything needing to be replaced? I have reflashed the sd card…I just don’t think the hard drive or the pi should be going out this quickly
I’ll wait for more responses also, but I appreciate you help thus far…
Btw, is the onion address on there once? Or would I have to go through all the log to get every instance of it?
In my case it was a faulty drive new from the store and still under warranty.
I dont know about yours.
Again if i were you, and Im not, I would start over. Or at least run a disk integrity test. Maybe swap cables
As far as your logs paste it into a notepad or any text editor of your choosing and do a search and replace for your onion address. Or a manual search and delete.
I’m not opposed to getting a new drive; I believe I know already, but if I replace the hard drive, I will be able to get MY node back (as far as the old data and funds)?
I tried to search my logs for my onion address, but it didn’t find what I’m thinking is my onion address…on the settings tab, I’m assuming it’s the address that is next to the “Remote Tor Access” tab…am I correct or am I searching for the wrong thing?
I was not aware you could have funds on a un-synced node?
At the risk of digging myself into a hole here since nobody else is chiming in.
How do you feel about working in the command line?
EDIT - Nevermind this.
You could uninstall and reinstall bitcoin and start over
I’m good with it…that’s the thing; it WAS synced before, and then it stopped and I could never get it back up and running
I’ve reflashed the SD card multiple times…I was getting help from the telegram group before it nuked
I’ve done that…that’s why I was doing the resync
