Hardware: Beelink SER5 MAX Mini PC (AMD Ryzen 7 6800U)
Model: SER5 MAX-L-24500EJ0W64PRO-DP/XA
OS: umbrelOS 2.0 beta 1
Issue:
When booting umbrelOS 2.0 with Ethernet connected, no wired interface is detected or assigned an IP address. Wi-Fi works, but the onboard 2.5GbE Ethernet port fails to initialize.
Kernel Diagnostic:
Checking dmesg reveals the in-tree r8169 driver fails during PCIe probing:
r8169 0000:02:00.0: error -ENODEV: unknown chip XID 689
Root Cause:
Newer production batches of the Beelink SER5 MAX carry an updated Realtek RTL8125 revision with hardware identifier XID 689. The current Linux kernel used in umbrelOS 2.0 and previous versions does not have this revision in its hardware tables. Upstream Linux kernels (6.8+) have already backported support for XID 689, which is why modern distributions like Ubuntu Server detect it immediately.
Request:
Could the team consider bumping the base kernel version or backporting the Realtek XID 689 patch in an upcoming umbrelOS release?
