Do I need to prep for Bitcoin Core 26.0?

Hi folks,

I see a snazzy new upgrade for my Bitcoin Core, this is the REASON I have an Umbrel. Do I just click “Upgrade” in the app store? DO I need to shut things down first? If so, how?

OK, so, crickets.

I successfully upgraded to Bitcoin Core 26.0

I rebooted my Umbrel (running on Raspberry Pi 4 8gb)
I clicked “Update” in the App Store
Update took a couple minutes
Bitcoin started up, started syncing, was caught up with 9 peers and counting in another couple minutes.
Electrs server showed “Waiting for Bitcoin core to finish syncing” for a minute, then it also showed “100% Synchronized”

Glad to hear the update went well for you- apologies for the delays.

I don’t see the update button, do I have to do something special or… ?

I.m on Umbrel 0.5.4 and Bitcoin Core 24.0.1

Hi @xrulescu

If you search for the bitcoin app in the app-store, does it just show the option ‘open’? the top right button should say ‘update’

It says “open”.

Ok, @xrulescu please try these steps.

  1. Open a terminal window on your computer. On macOS, you can open the Terminal app that’s installed by default on every Mac. On Windows, you can open Command Prompt or the PowerShell app.
  2. Type in the following command ssh -t umbrel@umbrel.local and press the Enter key
  3. Run sudo ~/umbrel/scripts/repo checkout https://github.com/getumbrel/umbrel-apps.git
  4. Then run sudo ~/umbrel/scripts/app update bitcoin

on the first try I got this message:

umbrel@umbrel:~ $ sudo ~/umbrel/scripts/repo checkout GitHub - getumbrel/umbrel-apps: The official app repository of the Umbrel App Store. Submit apps and updates here. Learn how → https://github.com/getumbrel/umbrel-apps#readme
[sudo] password for umbrel:
From GitHub - getumbrel/umbrel-apps: The official app repository of the Umbrel App Store. Submit apps and updates here. Learn how → https://github.com/getumbrel/umbrel-apps#readme

Another git process seems to be running in this repository, e.g.
an editor opened by ‘git commit’. Please make sure all processes
are terminated then try again. If it still fails, a git process
may have crashed in this repository earlier:
remove the file manually to continue.

I restarted the Umbrel, then on my 2nd attempt I got the exact same message so I deleted the index.lock file. But the command still failed, it was telling me I’m on a deprecated head, not sure if it matters but the .lock file was dated 17 oct.

Then I deleted the entire folder “/home/umbrel/umbrel/repos/https—github-com-getumbrel-umbrel-apps-git”, rerun the first command, restarted the Umbrel and the update notifications appeared on the UI.

I was behind with 4 updates… now everything works

Thank you!
