Backup with live usb Ubuntu

My Ubuntu gave kernel panic. I would like to know if I can make a backup with an Ubuntu live usb and save the main Umbrel folder on an external hard drive, I can’t lose my photos that are on the immich. Thank you very much.

Hey @waldyrdias

Have you lost access to your machine? It won’t come back online?

If you need to export/copy your important data, you will need to copy from your storage directory
umbrel/data/storage/*

Most of your applications will store your data such as pictures there.

If your drive has corrupted to the point where it won’t boot, you will need another way to mount the filesystem and recover your data. To my knowledge there is only a bootable installer, no live usb to boot in to, but you can use any other linux (probably Debian based) ISO’s to do this copy safely.

If I copy this folder to another Ubuntu server, can I use my UmbrelOS? I will use Ubuntu Live to gain access.

If you can mount your filesystem then the answer is yes. I believe you only need to copy your home/umbrel/umbrel/ directory for everything to be backed-up properly.
