Hey Everyone,

Am I missing where the checksums are located for the umbrel zip and source files on github? I can’t seem to find any.

Thanks,
Sudo

Hey DarthCoin,
Thanks for the reply, the link you shared doesn’t have any checksums for Umbrel nor the Umbrel OS. Did you mean to post a different link?

Umbrel doesn’t provide yet release signatures or checksums, unfortunately.

Is this still the case? I can’t see anything in the .zips or Git and it’s 2024!

So we decentralize our computing by YOLOing an unsigned, unchecked boot .img file?

Yes, almost 2025 now and it appears that we are to just yolo this img unchecked…

This is wild. Is there anyone from Umbrel who can comment to this?

I also look forwards to this answer.

At this point, you have to wonder. What not do the most basic thing and add this checksum?

All Bitcoin-related installs should allow this.

PLEASE PUT THIS IN PLACE - it’s like an hour’s work.

this is available now. Current umbrelOS releases include a `SHA256SUMS` file covering the installer ISO and Raspberry Pi images:

> **[Release umbrelOS 1.7.4 · getumbrel/umbrel](https://github.com/getumbrel/umbrel/releases/tag/1.7.4)**
>
> umbrelOS 1.7.4 fixes an issue where remote access over Tor and apps that use Tor could fail to connect.

Download `SHA256SUMS` and the image from the same release, then hash the downloaded file and compare it with the matching line in `SHA256SUMS`:

```auto
# Linux
sha256sum FILENAME
# macOS
shasum -a 256 FILENAME
# Windows PowerShell
Get-FileHash .\FILENAME -Algorithm SHA256
```

Replace `FILENAME` with the exact name of the file you downloaded. There’s also an OpenTimestamps proof for the checksum file, but I still don’t see a GPG/minisign signature for the release files.
