Would running a VPN node prevent Umbrel from functioning correctly? I started with Umbrel on 0.5.3 on Raspberry Pi, It ran fine, I was able to install and sync the Bitcoin Node. Had my LN Node running just fine. Started running a Mysterium VPN node on the same network, everything still worked fine. Then auto-updated through the umbrel.local interface to 0.5.4. Then one day out of the blue I wasn’t able to install apps. Tried re-installing Umbrel OS on my SD card it came back up just fine still not able to install apps. Turned off my VPN Node to see if that was the problem, was still not able to install any apps. Thought a clean, full, reformat and reinstall would fix the problem. Backed up my LN node settings and the one channel that was stuck in Opening limbo because I was dumb with the channel size fee calculation. Reformatted and Reinstalled everything. Booted up just fine was able to sign into my same umbrel account and went to install the Bitcoin Node to start the long wait of the syncing blockchain and can’t even install the Bitcoin Node now. Nothing installs can’t even install apps via ssh.

Now I just want my Sats back. I was able to restore my “On Chain” wallet with the Blue Wallet phone app but of course it’s Zeroed out from me trying to fix opening channel in limbo, and I can’t get back into my LN node to even try to attempt fixing all my rookie mistakes. Please help. Even if I can’t get my Sats back, knowing what went wrong would be useful for when try again. At this point I can’t even start over from rock bottom.

It shouldn’t cause any issues, but sometimes VPNs can make weird altercations to the network your Umbrel is on, i.e. Mullvad has an option to enable/disable ‘local network sharing’

If possible can you please try installing an app, and then assuming it doesn’t install, go to the settings tab and press ‘START’ under troubleshooting. You can download that log and attach it in a reply here. This will help us diagnose the specific issue.

Thanks, can you please try the following steps and let me know if that resolves the issue.

> [@Official Umbrel Troubleshooting Guide and FAQ](https://community.umbrel.com/t/official-umbrel-troubleshooting-guide-and-faq/9873/1):
>
> SSH (Secure Shell) is a way to access and control a device, such as your Umbrel server running on a Umbrel Home or Raspberry Pi, via the command line. To access Umbrel via SSH, follow these steps:
>
> 1. Open a terminal window on your computer. On macOS, you can open the Terminal app that’s installed by default on every Mac. On Windows, you can open Command Prompt or the PowerShell app.
> 2. Type in the following command\* and press the `Enter` key:`ssh -t umbrel@umbrel.local`\*In the command given above, you can replace `umbrel.local` with the local IP of your Umbrel if you prefer. If you are using PowerShell on Windows 10, you may need to run `ssh umbrel@umbrel` instead of the command given above.
> 3. You will then be prompted to enter your password. This is the same password you use to access your Umbrel through a browser. The default password before you have created an account on your Umbrel is `moneyprintergobrrr` on Raspberry Pi, and `umbrel` on Umbrel Home. You will not be able to see your password as you type it into the terminal. Once you have typed in your password, press the `Enter` key.
>
> This will established an SSH connection to your Umbrel server. You can now begin using the command line interface to perform various actions and troubleshoot issues that require SSH.

> [@Official Umbrel Troubleshooting Guide and FAQ](https://community.umbrel.com/t/official-umbrel-troubleshooting-guide-and-faq/9873/1):
>
> - Run the following command. If you are on a Linux machine, you may need to replace `~/umbrel` with the path to your installation directory, as described in _Troubleshooting on Linux_:`sudo ~/umbrel/scripts/stop && sudo ~/umbrel/scripts/start`
> - Wait for the process to complete and try installing the app again through the Umbrel App Store.

Same result. It’s like the path to the repository has been changed or is being blocked. Is there a patch coming out soon? This 0.5.4 update seems to be the crashing a lot of nodes.

Just wanted to post an update. I’m not sure what fixed it other than just brute forcing the first install of the Bidcoin Node via sudo ~/umbrel/scripts/app install bitcoin until it completed all the pulls to done, but my Umbrel is working fine again. I can even install apps from the App store again. I wish I knew what caused the issue so it could be avoided in the future.
