# LND will not start. Handshake failed with fatal error SSL\_ERROR\_SSL

Brand new Umbrel Home. Installed bitcoin Synced and running. Installed LND. Was running. I restarted Umbrel, and LND now errors out and won’t start.

Logs are full of this error.

lightning\_app\_1 | E0610 00:54:50.785564211 31 ssl\_transport\_security.cc:1245] Handshake failed with fatal error SSL\_ERROR\_SSL: error:1416F086:SSL routines:tls\_process\_server\_certificate:certificate verify failed.

I fixed it by deleting the tls.cert and tls.key.

I have the same error, how did you deleted the tls.cert and tls.key.? Thank you

You’ll find those files in ~/umbrel/app-data/lightning/data/lnd

Just delete the tls.cert and tls.key files you find there and then restart lnd.

SSH into your Umbrel.

rm ~/umbrel/app-data/lightning/data/lnd/tls.crt

rm ~/umbrel/app-data/lightning/data/lnd/tls.key

Then restart lnd.
