# Installing Umbrel OS / Balena Etcher on MAC

To build an umbrel server, can I download Umbrel OS / Balena Etcher from [getumbrel.com](http://getumbrel.com) on a Mac and then to the SD card? Or does this need to be done on Windows PC?

Yes it works. Balena Etcher is available for MacOS. I flashed the microSD on my wife’s Macbook as my notebook have no card reader.

I’m having the same issues. I just went out and bought a monitor, keyboard, mouse, have the node set up, downloading and caught up pi software, but won’t let me download balena etcher. Am I missing any steps I missing or recommendations?

thanks, I’m all set. on Mac, I was able to download Umbrel OS and flash to micro SD using Balena Etcher.
