# Install UmbrelOS as a VM (virtual machine)

It’s a bit tricky as the _umbrelos-amd64.img.xz_ image seems not to be compatible with VMs. I got it to work using the _umbrelos-amd64-usb-installer.img.xz_ by following the steps below.
