# Having trouble recovering lightning channels

I followed the instructions to ssh in to my node and use my channel backup, but nothing happens. Are there any other steps to try?

How did you create the channel backup file? Did it come from the Umbrel UI, or did it happen to come from RTL? If RTL, that is a different file type, and a slightly different procedure.

I thought I downloaded the channel backup from Umbrel UI. What is the procedure for RTL?

I only asked because I just assumed they were the same thing when I was doing this, and found out the hard way they weren’t.
It is easy to tell the difference. I believe the umbrel UI downloads a file called my-umbrel-channels.backup and the RTL version is something like Channel-all.bak
