# External Drive Installation

Sort of a basic question, can I install UmbrelOS on an external SSD connected via USB3.0 and have it function normally if I boot off that instead of the internally installed HD?

ChatGPT is giving me a list of mounting scripts that I’d need to run. I’m a little skeptical of this…I would install UmbrelOS on this external drive and I’d make sure the BIOS boots that drive whenever I want to run UmbrelOS. Not sure why I’d need to manually mount anything.
