AlbyHub with CLN

Hi!

Is there a guide somewhere on how to get Albyhub working on UmbrelOS with Core Lightning (CLN) installed? What should I enter for the required parameters CLN_ADDRESS and CLN_LIGHTNING_DIR? “umbrel.local:2110”?

Thank you very much for your help.

Jakub

hey Jakub! 2110 is the right port. If both apps are on the same Umbrel, try 10.21.21.96:2110 for CLN_ADDRESS.

The other field, CLN_LIGHTNING_DIR, needs a folder containing CLN’s connection certificates. You can copy those over using Files in umbrelOS:

  1. Open Files → Apps → Core Lightning → data → lightningd → bitcoin.
  2. Copy ca.pem, client.pem and client-key.pem. Make sure to copy, not move, so the originals stay where they are.
  3. Go to Apps → Alby Hub → data, create a folder called cln-certs, and paste those three files into it.
  4. Back in Alby Hub, enter /data/cln-certs for CLN_LIGHTNING_DIR.

Alby Hub can’t access CLN’s folder directly by default, so this puts the certificates somewhere it can see. Keep those files private, especially client-key.pem, since they grant access to your node.

I haven’t tested this exact setup end to end. If you get a “permission denied” error, share the error text, not the certificate contents, as the copied files may need a permissions adjustment.
