Okay, I managed to get my node back up and running, and upgraded to the new version 0.4.0. Here’s what I did:

  1. First and foremost, I shutdown umbrel and backed up anything that i might need, incase something goes wrong.

./umbrel/scripts/stop

  • my 24 word seed phrase
  • /umbrel/lnd/data/chain/bitcoin/mainnet/channel.backup
  • Since i’m using VM’s I took a snapshot of the VM at this moment so i can revert to it if needed.
  1. installed Umbrel 0.4.0 in a new directory

mkdir umbrel2
cd umbrel2
curl -L https://github.com/getumbrel/umbrel/archive/v0.4.0.tar.gz | tar -xz --strip-components=1
sudo ./scripts/start

  1. I went through the setup process, using my recovery seed, and initialized Umbrel to the point where i could see the dashboard

  2. I stopped the new Umbrel install from terminal.

sudo ./scripts/stop

  1. I renamed the bitcoin/electrs/lnd directories & then copied the directories from the old installation to the new installation.

mv bitcoin bitcoin-backup
mv electrs electrs-backup
mv lnd lnd-backup
mv ~/umbrel/bitcoin ~/umbrel2/bitcoin
mv ~/umbrel/electrs ~/umbrel2/electrs
mv ~/umbrel/lnd ~/umbrel2/lnd

  1. I started umbrel back up and checked that everything looked OK.

sudo ~/umbrel2/scripts/start

At this point, nearly everything is back to normal. The blockchain did not have to re-sync and all of my lightning channels have been migrated to the new install.

The only remaining problem is that I cannot install apps, apps seem to get stuck on “installing”. I could always just install these apps individually and manually, but I’d like to figure out what is still broken so that I can use Umbrel as intended.

Does anyone have any idea of what might be going on?
